Built in the second half of the 16th century by order of Bishop Juan de San Millán, the church was originally dedicated to St. Michael and the Angels. The interior contains some excellent works of art, such as the sculpture called the Virgin of the Rosary, which shows the Virgin and Child with St. John, by Juan de Juni; a figure of the church’s founder, by Esteban Jordán; and an image of St. Francis Xavier, probably by an apprentice of Gregorio Fernández.
