The Palace of Gaviria is now the headquarters of the Official Architects Association of Leon (COAL). The recent refurbishment work respected the original construction while transforming the old palace into a social and cultural centre that plays host to art exhibitions, conferences and talks. The efforts made to respect the essential character of the building included conserving many decorative elements of considerable value and interest such as the wooden floors. A notable feature of the interior is the work called “The Road of the King”, by the Japanese sculptor Kiyoshi Yarnaoka.
