The Way of Saint James has left a deep mark on Leon and its customs. The cultural and spiritual adventure where pilgrims take centre stage is a metaphor of the passage of time, even more so when you see the all the events and masses held in the city. Every year the routes are crowded with pilgrims immersed in a religious, tourist and social phenomenon that was and is one of the foundations of progress in Europe.

Leon is an active member part of the Association of Municipalities of the Way of Saint James and its maze of streets has signs to assist pilgrims and travellers to find their way around. There’s an unwritten law of the Way: you have to stop at Leon to enjoy the beauty of a city with the feel of an open-air museum.
