Parque de La Chantría

Opened at the end of summer, 1998, on top of what used to be a rubbish tip, the Jardín del Chantre (Garden of El Chantre) is the outcome of a major project to reproduce a Leonese forest in an urban setting.

The name “Chantre” comes from the person responsible in cathedrals for directing the church choir. The surface area of the park is more than 23,000 m², and is a perfect visual composition of hollies, acacia, cherry trees and large plane trees that have been transplanted from other parts of the city, with a network of ponds and streams. The park is a real feast for the eyes, with its ever changing forms and colours according the endless cycle of the seasons.
